The dog who started everything. Simba was the foundation of Pride Rock and the reason the story exists at all.
Gesundheit The Commander (Atawhai)
Atawhai came into our lives after Simba and became one of the most important dogs in the Pride Rock story. Initially a little timid, he flourished when Horowai arrived. He became her close companion, the puppies’ gentle giant, and later the quiet guardian who stayed beside each of the dogs through illness and loss.
Billion Dola Babe of Runciman (Horowai)
Horowai was our beloved girl and the mother of the Pride Rock litter. Affectionate, loyal and deeply bonded with her people, she also became the centre of one of the most meaningful breeding experiences of our lives.
Poutiriao MacLeod of Pride Rock (Mac)
Mac was one of the puppies we kept. He was the little miracle of the litter, tiny at birth and uncertain in his early days, yet he survived and grew into a dog who carried so much of Simba’s presence.
Kiara of Pride Rock (Kiara)
Kiara was the female puppy we kept. She completed the family and carried the Pride Rock line forward within our own home.
Nismo
Nismo was the other male from the litter. His owner’s update years later gave us one of the clearest signs that we had done the job we hoped to do. He described Nismo as calm, intuitive, protective, gentle with people and animals, and ultimately “my best friend.”
