Welcome to Pride Rock Rottweilers.

Pride Rock began with an extraordinary dog named Papawai Puraz, known to us as Simba.
His loyalty, strength and character shaped everything that followed.

After losing Simba, we preserved his frozen semen. Years later, through our girl Horowai, we made the difficult decision to try breeding from it.

The result was a litter that carried Simba’s line forward and became one of the most meaningful experiences of our lives.

Welcome to Pride Rock Rottweilers.
This site is the online home of our Rottweiler story - the dogs we loved, the line we preserved, and the young boy now carrying that love forward in his own way.
Pride Rock was once a registered kennel in New Zealand. One of the most meaningful parts of that journey was preserving frozen semen from our beloved boy Simba, whose pedigree name was Papawai Puraz. At the time, it felt less like a breeding decision and more like a way of holding on to something of him.
Years later, after a great deal of thought, we made the decision to use that semen with our girl Horowai. It was a deeply emotional experience, and one that gave us a litter we will never forget. For us, that litter was never only about breeding. It was about memory, responsibility, and the rare chance to carry forward a dog who had left such a mark on our lives.
Over the years we shared our home with Atawhai, Horowai, Mac, and Kiara. They were all different, all deeply loved, and all central to the Pride Rock story. Losing them within a relatively short period changed us and, for a time, this site was left quiet.
Now, with Maru in our lives, Pride Rock has a new purpose.
It is no longer here to present us as an active kennel. It is here to honour the dogs who came before, preserve the story of a bloodline that meant a great deal to us, and share life with the young dog who arrived after a very hard chapter.
If you take the time to look through the pages here, you will find our dogs, our breeding story, our reflections on raising a litter, and updates on Maru as he grows into himself.

Pride Rock began with an extraordinary dog named Papawai Puraz, known to us as Simba. Like many Rottweiler owners, once he entered our lives everything changed. His loyalty, strength and character left a lasting impression that shaped the years that followed.
When Simba passed away, we made the decision to preserve his frozen semen. At the time it was not because we were determined to breed again. It was simply because we could not bear the thought of losing every possibility of him. Part of us felt he should be left to rest in peace, and for a long time we did not believe we would ever use it.
Years later, through our beloved girl Horowai, we made the difficult decision to try. The result was one of the most emotional and meaningful experiences of our lives — a successful litter that carried Simba’s line forward.
Those puppies were raised with extraordinary care, spending their earliest weeks surrounded by people, close contact, and constant supervision. Our goal was simple: if someone welcomed a Pride Rock puppy into their life, we wanted that dog to become their best mate.
Years later, one owner wrote of his dog Nismo:
“You did a great job breeding an amazing Rottweiler. He’s not just my pet — he’s my best friend.”
Today this site exists to preserve the story of those dogs, the experience of raising them, and the remarkable bond Rottweilers create with the people who love them.
With the recent arrival of Maru, the story continues.
